Before I get into Kirstie’s timeline of weight gain and loss, here’s where she is currently:
The Beginning Years
So, how did the Kirstie Alley weight loss journey begin? Born in Wichita, Kansas, Alley confesses to never having to think about her weight growing up, crediting her slim figure to competitive swimming and a fast metabolism. However, as we all are becoming aware, being thin does not mean being healthy! Alley credits her struggles with weight to bad habits set in place in her youth including eating copious amounts of sugar, mainly in the form of candy bars and Coke. Not surprisingly, a sweet tooth is something she still battles today.
Alley dropped out of college her sophomore year to pursue a career as an interior designer. She made her first big-screen debut as a contestant on Match Game (a popular game show) and later secured an acting role as a Vulcan and Starfleet officer in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan in 1982. This would be the beginning of what would become over thirty years of on-screen appearances including her most famed role of Rebecca Howe-Santry on the sitcom Cheers.
Admittedly, Alley didn’t start struggling with her weight until her mid-50′s when her “metabolism slowed down and her poor eating habits caught up to her.” Sound familiar? In an interview with The View, she shares a glimpse into the Kirstie Alley Weight Loss Journey.
2005 was a BIG YEAR for Kirstie. In this year, Alley began 3 things that would launch her as a public weight loss figure: 1.) She began a TV show, Fat Actress, which shared intimate glimpses into Alley’s struggle to revive her Hollywood career while being overweight. 2.) She published a memoir of sorts called How to Lose Your Ass and Regain Your Life where she candidly portrays her daily battle of being fat in an on-screen environment, and 3.) She partnered with Jenny Craig in an effort to get the weight off.
Two years later, we pick up the Kirstie Alley weight loss story when Alley reveals all on Oprah! Her 75 pound weight loss was hard to miss!
After serving as Jenny Craig’s spokesperson for three years following her big reveal, Alley put away the swimsuit and put back on the pounds.
She reported to People magazine that she tipped the scales in 2009 at 230 pounds. For being 5’7″, this classifies her as being clinically obese. She appeared again on Oprah and discussed her dramatic change.
Tired of being fat, Kirstie got her weight under control and lost a total of 90 pounds while appearing on the hit TV show, Dancing with the Stars. “I lost 60 pounds before I started “Dancing with the Stars,” and I lost 30 pounds during it,” the svelte looking celebrity explained during an appearance on the ABC show The View.
Kirstie danced with professional dancers up to three hours a day, every day, according to US Weekly. (Her favorite dance is the Argentine Tango). When Kirstie was on the show, viewers got to see her slim down before their eyes each week. She went from a size 12 to a size 6 and lost 38 inches around her waist during the show and has continued to dance since the show ended to maintain her sleek body.
She then launched 100 Days of Dance on January 1, 2012, encouraging people to dance for 100 consecutive days in order to lose weight or stay fit. She explains how the intense, hectic and lengthy dancing routines combined with a 1400 per day calorie diet have been the main elements to her weight loss success.
Kirstie recently debuted in a new reality tv series, Kirstie Alley’s Big Life, which focused on her weight struggles and eventually launched her holistic and organic approach to weight loss and the creation of her own weight loss company, Organic Liaison. According to their website, Organic Liaison goes by the philosophy that “one diet does not work for all.” Kirstie created this weight loss program in 2010 along with doctors and nutritionists. This online, membership-based program revolves around the idea that eating healthy organic food instead of unhealthy processed food, along with proper supplementation, is key to keeping the weight off.
Overall, Alley has now lost (AND MORE IMPORTANTLY HAS KEPT OFF!!!) a total of 100 pounds and sports a healthy, feminine body! While I applaud her accomplishment, I now want to show you how you can do the same thing! Whether you have 2 or 200 pounds to lose, I want to show you how it is possible to lose weight and sport the same sexy and feminine figure!!! So, this begs the question…HOW CAN YOU GET HER RESULTS???
How to Get the Same Results as Kirstie
Before I go any further, please watch this video which details the mistakes today’s fitness industry is making that is ruining feminine figures all around the nation:
In her reality series, Fat Actress, Alley enlisted the help of a personal trainer – JR Rogers who won the ISHC Trainer of the Year award in 2006. His focus for Alley was cardio (which was also emphasized in her time with Dancing with the Stars), as well as resistance training. He was able to provide Alley with workouts that worked and she got the results she was after. For the rest of us who don’t have this monetary luxury, Visual Impact for Women is a great solution! As a workout program to adopt for the Kirstie Alley weight loss results, I can recommend none more highly. It has forever changed the way I train personally, and the way I train my clients. For less than the price of a single personal training session, you can get daily workouts, nutrition advice, a lifelong membership to cutting edge discoveries in exercise science, and a lot more!
Alongside her workouts, the other half of the Kirstie Alley weight loss success was her diet. In her initial weight loss, Alley found success through Jenny Craig. In this program, the client gets to choose between three programs and is then set on pre-fixed meals that focus on a combination of complex carbs, lean protein, and limited fat. This program worked in the short term for Alley, but not in the long term.
As I mentioned above, Kirstie Alley lost 100 lbs through her Rescue Me Kit, which helped her launch her own weight loss company, Organic Liaison. I love this company because it focuses on eating whole and organic foods we all have access to.

When it comes down to it, weight loss success (both long and short term) is about enlisting help. Kirstie Alley didn’t go it alone in her weight loss journey and you don’t have to either! Unfortunately, our society has put a high price tag on resources like personal training and nutritional help, making it out of reach for the masses. Thus, I hope the above programs and information provided help you on your way to a healthier lifestyle! I want to say thank you to Kirstie Alley, for your vulnerability in the media and for shedding light into a topic that so many of us women have battled for years! And thank you for teaching us that the true way to success in life and in health is believing in yourself and surrounding yourself with others who believe in you as well! Cheers!
